There is evidence to prove that many years after independence, India is still struggling with issues with offering fundamental health services to people. Government sources reveal that 45 children die each hour owing to respiratory infection in our country. One child dies due to dearie every minute. About 2M children who are below 5 years die owing to the preventable disease annually. The grave situation only calls for timely diagnosis and care to decrease the rate of mortality and morbidity. The medical camps are put-up a major part of our country where a lack of the healthcare needs has been strongly felt. It is to serve the largest population that is financially vulnerable that is the lower strata of society.
The purposes of the Health Style campaign were: to increase public awareness of the effects of life-style on health; to enable persons to assess which life-style changes would be most conducive to their health; to stimulate information-seeking behavior and; to foster the development of local health promotion activities and referral networks. The campaign was implemented in nine test communities across the United States. This article: provides an overview of the campaign; examines strategies used to implement the campaign in three local communities and; presents the findings of evaluations conducted at both the national and local levels.
